In order to be ready for the new season we need to make some improvements to the club house and ground. Some work is already in process – the square has had extensive work last Autumn and over the winter and the kitchen has been removed and is being replaced, but we need your help with other tasks. The sightscreen has blown over and been damaged and has damaged the fence; we need to remove the concrete of the old nets as this presents an unacceptable risk when we are using the bottom of the square and there is need to re=paint parts of the pavilion.

We plan to complete the work over two Saturdays between 9.00 am and 1.00 on 13th and 27th March.

We would like to see every member coming to help on at least one of the Saturdays. Please come in old clothes and stout shoes and be ready for some hard work. We will provide the equipment needed and tera / coffee during the morning.

Please contact Steve Gardner (snr) to let me know which Saturday you will be coming so that we can organise tasks.

2010 will see Fillongley take on new opposition in the village knockout, as we’ve been drawn against the mysterious Tile Hill Village cricket club in the 2nd round.

Its unclear at present what standard Tile Hill Village will be and indeed if they’ve ever even played a game before, but the Tile Hill in question does appear to be the one in the middle of Coventry, and it seems that at least some of the players will not be unfamiliar to Fillongley, as some of Highway’s players appear to be involved.

More news as we get it.

Hello!

Were now in Tanzania in a little town called Moshi at the foot of Mt Kilimanjaro. Since i last wrote anything we have been travelling through the middle of Kenya where we went on a cycling safari at Hells Gate National Park, which was very spectacular, saw Giraffe, Zebra, all kinds of Gazelle etc. We then went to Nakuru and then Kisumu which is on Lake vVictoria, there we went on a Hippo safari on a boat and got close to some massive hippo’s and crocodiles!

We then went on to Uganda, in Uganda we started in a place called Jinja where we went on a huge trip white water rafting down the river Nile which was immense, flipped a load of times, and got the DVD of it all to show! We had christmas in a local village called Bujugali where we learned how to carry stuff on our head, and also have a massive christmas meal of Matooke (stewed plantain), beef, spicy sauces and other stuff, we then went to a party with some dodgy music and even dodgier ladies in Jinja!

New years we spent new years in Kampala, we would love to tell you what we did, but unfortunately dont really know, Kampala is a massive city with loads to do. We went on a 3 day safari up to Murchison Falls after where we saw massive elephants, crocodiles, giraffes, but still no bloody lions!

We then went to Lake Bunyoni which was stunning and had a relaxing few days swimming in the lake before we climbed a mountain called Sabinyo and then headed south into Rwanda. In rwanda we went to Gisenyi first which is quite surreal as it has a lake beach on it, which looks just like the sea. We then went to Kibuye futrher down the coast which was amazing also. We then spent a week or so in Kigali, a very nice city, we did the Genocide memorials etc and had a few excursions and nights out in some very dodgy little clubs, great fun though.

So now were in Tanzania, we have been to Mwanza and had some hellboy coach journeys.Had a few days in Arusha which is pretty much a party town with loads of people on the way to the Serengeti. In a week we’ll be on a beach in Zanzibar! Its a hard life!

Hope you’re all ok. Right, so now we have left our volunteering center in Mtwapa, our last few weeks were pretty good, leaving the center was sad in a way as the kids were a really good laugh, but it was time to hit the road. We left Mtwapa and got a Matatu up to Malindi, which was going well until some other matatu conductor “lost our money”and we had to pay again! When we arrived in Malindi we found Tana guest house, which was everything you need, beds, showers, mosquito nets and for 3 quid ish a night it was pretty ideal. We met with another couple of travellers and headed to Marafe and saw Hell’s kitchen which was pretty spectacular, like a mini Grand Canyon… Well worth a bumpy taxi journey for a couple of hours! After a couple of days in Malindi we explored Watamu! A small village with gorgeous tropical beaches around it We satyed there for a day, stopping off to visit the ruins of an old Swahili town at Gede and also going to Bio-Kens snake farm where we saw and held a load of snakes, and also saw a Black Mamba, the most poisonous snake in the world! On Monday we headed to Lamu, where we are now! It’s such a nice place, on an island in the north of Kenya about 50 miles ish from Somalia!!… There are really old coral stone, whitewashed buildings, narrow streets with no cars whatsoever. People get from place to place on donkeys, walking is still a bit of an effort as it was in Mombasa as its still about 35 degrees here!!!! So we have a few days here, probably head back to Mombasa on Sunday or monday before we hit the road inland to Nairobi, Naivasha, Nakuru, and eventually Uganda and Rwanda!! It’s still going reall well; there’s so much more we could tell you but we would be here forever!! In a bit!!…

I’ll put some photos up asap
