North Warwick hit by Gales
The Seconds overcame a resurgent North Warwick thanks to a stately 77 from Michael Gales and an undefeated 8th wicket partnership of 69. Sent in to bat on a good pitch North Warwick wasted little time in setting about the Fillongley bowlers and McPherson raced to 73 before Chris Terry snaffled a sharp catch off the bowling of Simon Blackmore. The rate didn’t slacken for long as Corbett took up the initiative, reaching his 100 in the last over before falling to a rather ambitious “Dilshan” John Cartwright was the pick of the bowlers with 4 for 54 from his 15. The total of 236 all out looked challenging.
An opening stand of 64 between Jee Lee and Michael Gales was broken when Jeff fell for 15 but Simon B joined Michael and the pair matched the needed rate until “Shue” lofted one and was caught for 31 with the score on 162. A worrying collapse then reduced us to 169 for 7 when a nervous skipper walked out to join “Tim the Chair” at the crease. Thanks to the Michael and Simon the rate required was not too high and a series of prods and pushes and some sharp singles (youngsters take note!) saw us past 200. It was tense right to the end before the winning runs came off the first ball of the last over with Tim proudly leaving the field on 32 not out.
All credit to North Warwick for their excellent attitude throughout the game. We all wish you well.
