WCL Under 19

The WCL Under 19 side lost to Coventry Bears by 4 wickets at Corley today. Asked to bat on a wicket with very little bounce the WCL side found scoring difficult. Even the most cleanly hit shots held up on the slow outfield. The innings was built round contributions from captain Chris Moore with 43 and Tom Barber (34). They put on 57 for the 3rd wicket and at 99-3 with 20 left a decent score was on the cards. No-one else could get on terms with the pitch though, and the innings fell away to 139 all out in the 42nd of 45 overs.

For the Bears side, who travel to Hamburg at the weekend to play the German national side, scoring proved equally difficult. Opener Lewis batted with real application for 40 off 96 balls, then Marco Higgens played the best knock of the game (58 off 60 balls) to up the rate and seal the win.

The WCL side move on to Fillongley on Wednesday (12.30pm hopefully) to play Shropshire. Our visitors are apparantly arriving by coach, which should be interesting. It has the makings of a good game and of course all are welcome.
