Flemmo flays Kenilworth

Kenilworth 200-6      Fillongley 201-2

A first ever league win against Kenilworth this afternoon took us to third, just two points behind Kenilworth and Bedworth, who jumped from sixth to top following their win over Bablake.

It doesn’t seem to matter who wins the toss. We always bowl and today was no exception. The wicket was quite wet after yesterdays deluge so that might have influenced Phil’s decision. Kenilworth started well but soon lost Dave Edmunds and their recruit from C & NW Tom Lawrence, both bowled by Steve Gardner. With Webby and Tom Nightingale bowling, runs started to dry up. Mitch Lowe has caused untold damage in the past, but he became Webbys second victim with the score at 101-4 in the 28th over. Ace fielder Ben Fleming took the catch, which was a relief since Barber had missed a chance on the boundary just before. The next ten overs saw the addition of just ten runs for two wickets, including opener Nason, who had held the innings together with a patient 54. At 111-6 with 12 overs left we were well on top, but Peebles and Wisdish settled to an excellent stand which took Kenilworth to an unlikely 200-6 in their 50 overs. Peebles hit four sixes off Steve Gardner on the way to 61 not out. Pick of the bowlers for Fillongley was Ian Webster, who finished with 3-36 of his 15 overs. Tom Nightingale also turned in a decent spell, which was nice to see after last weeks filth.

200 looked a very gettable score on a pitch which had played quite well, and openers Reg and Ben Fleming made a positive start. Their stand of 42 in 7 overs put us well ahead of the required rate. After Reg was out Pro joined Ben and the pair made batting look easy, putting together a stand of 99 and effectively sealing the win. There was a look of resignation about the Kenilworth side by this time, and with Aaron looking as comfortable as Pro the win was completed with ten overs to spare. Ben Fleming completed his first competitive ton, and this was a top class innings. He hits the ball hard and punishes poor length balls consistently.

The scorecard below is courtesy of Richard Grover (Kenilworth scorer) and produced using Total Cricket Scorer. He has also given me an xps file which has a detailed ball by ball analysis. Not straightforward putting this on the site but I can e-mail it to anyone who is interested.

There is a report on www.kenilworthcc.co.uk, as well as a brief report on the second team game.
