Super Skipper Simon Sees Storks Safely Home
Thursday league captain Simon Blackmore paced his innings to perfection, scoring an unbeaten 50 as Fillongley chased down Haunchwood’s 109 for 9.
Haunchwood elected to bat, and lost their top 3 all bowled in the early overs. This brought Copson to the crease, and he immediately looked more comfortable, holding Hauchwood together with a classy looking 48 including some lovely looking cover drives.
There was plenty happening in the field as well, with Barbs being attacked by the concrete net ends, your correspondent being savagely assaulted by a bee, and Reg continuing his week of hoofing by trying to kick a cricket ball clean through a Ford Fiesta on the boundary. In the midst of this JK repeated his party trick of catching the ball on his chest and not bothering with his hands.
Sladey and Cashy restored some sanity to proceedings with some controlled bowling, Dave being particularly successful. One unfortunate batsmen was conviced he was an off spinner, and walked off shaking his head and saying “he swung it round my legs”
Thankfully Fillongley’s batting innings was far less eventful, and there was even opporunity to teach some of the “I don’t know how to score” brigade, some of the basics of scoring. On the pitch, we had a somewhat slow start, but always had wickets in hand, and despite Cookie’s attempts to make it interesting, by leaving the first 2 balls of the last over, Simon batted through the innings and saw us home with two balls to spare.
Next week sees a double header, with the Fellowship cup final at Wolvey on Tuesday, and Nuneaton away on Thursday.
