ST seals another win

Nuneaton 118 all out,     Fillongley 121-4

We move up to second in the league with this comprehensive win over our local rivals. Phil finally won a toss and chose to bowl in what looked to me pretty good batting conditions. Andy Moore opened with Dave Slade, rather than Webby or Shaun who were warming up with a brisk walk from the car park to the changing rooms. After one early wicket Tomlin and Osbourne started to score quickly, taking the score on to 47 in 9 overs. Tomlin had made 34 off 33 balls before Shaun bowled him with the last ball of his first over.

The game then turned on its head as Shaun had Whitehouse caught behind with the last ball of his second over then bowled Colkin and had Caratella lbw to complete a hat trick. The spell was only 4 overs but left Jason Deans Orbit sponsored Weddington Roaders, who were without teenage starlet (enough of this, Geoff) in tatters at 55-5. Dave Slade was again causing problems at the other end and took the next three wickets. And then Shaun returned to mop up the last two, ending with figures of six wickets for four runs in 29 balls.

We fell short chasing this sort of score recently, but surely it wouldn’t happen again. Doubts crept in when we were 4-2 early on. Reg lasted only 3 balls, possibly jaded after participating in a successful world record attempt in the week, and Tom Barber fell to a tremendous catch. Ben Fleming and Aaron Blackmore put together a 50 partnership and at 58-2 at tea we would have been cruising, Unfortunately Ben and then Pro fell in the over before the break and it was 58-4 instead.

No Atherstone horrors today though. Phil and Aaron were able to move the score on smartly after tea (pretty good I thought) and we reached the target in 28 overs. Aaron finished on 63 not out, which would have been enough for man of the match on any other day!

Defeats for Atherstone and Kenilworth mean we move up to second, 15 points behind leaders Nuneaton. It is on to Earlswood for the NVC Regional Final tomorrow.

Can I have the scorebook so as to put up the card tomorrow please. Also any other reports, comments, abuse etc. All being well the full card will be on the site on Monday, plus a report on the Earlswood game. Maybe even some photos!
