Kenilworth take the honours

Kenilworth 217 all out   F illongley 182 all out

After a five game winning run, we met our match against Kenilworth this aftenoon. It was a case of deja vu as a strong position was turned round by Mitch Lowe, who made 74 off 49 balls. He was well supported by Lee Melville (57), the pair putting on 125 for the fifth wicket and setting Kenilworth up for a total of 217.  Our front line bowlers did well yet again, restrictting Kenilworth to 66-3 at drinks, but once Lowe came in at number 6 we were exposed big time. He hit Pro and  Tom Nightingale for trademark big sixes, and by the time Tom had him stumped the score was 208-6. After that there wasn’t much, and the final score of 217 was certainly gettable on a good day.

Tom Barber went second ball but Ton Nightingale and Dan Smith made steadty progress. Tom seemed to mix top shots with any number of play and misses, especially to Lowe. I thought his 54 off 109 balls was an innings of real character against some tight bowling. Dan looked like a genuine first team opener before being bowled without playing a shot. Good knocks by Aaron (38) and Pro (35) put us in with a genuine shout, needing not much more than six an over, but once Phil Hammond was caught for 18 it was time to close out the draw.  We should have drawn the game but Geoff Edmunds was too good for the tail. Our numbers 9, 10 and jack fell for ducks  (3 wickets in 9 balls ) and Kenilworth took the win with two balls to spare.

The seconds made 193, with Jeff Lee making 53 and Pete Myton 42. Kenilworth got the runs for two wickets in 42 overs. I understand that they had a 15 year old lad by the name of P Howard who made 80.  What a tremendous performance.  I’m told it was a really classy knock, and trust that his efforts will secure selection for the next game. For Fillongley Andy Moore returned 13-3-28-0.

John Bromley got the thirds out, and they had an enjoyable game against Oakfield. Duncan Moore got a 50 and FPL bargain Harry Tregonning got 3 wickets. Luke Duggins took his first senior wickets.
