NVC vs Weekley and Warkton
Npower Village Cup Weekley and Warkton v Fillongley We are through to the last 16 of the Npower Village Cup after a tense 5 wicket win over Northamptonshire winners Weekley and Warkton. Now just three games away from a Lords final we travel to Woodhouses (Manchester) in two weeks time. Phil Hammond won the toss and put the opposition in on a slow and uneven pitch. The home side made slow progress at the start against an accurate opening attack. Shan Tregonning was outstanding, conceding just 9 runs his nine over stint. With just 8 overs of the allotted 40 left Weekley and Warkton were in real trouble at 74-4. R Griggs then started to turn things round, facing only 12 balls but hitting four sixes in an innings of 34. Some big hits from the tail enders including three more sixes off the last over got the score to a challenging 168-8. In reply Fillongley found runs just as hard to get. Chris Moore made a important 23 at the start but the required rate steadily crept up to 7 per over. Aaron Blackmore proved to be the match winner. He came in at 44-2 and first took over the anchor role before accelerating in the last six overs. With 3 overs left there were still 21 runs needed but with the home sides main bowlers having bowled out, Griggs bowled a wayward over and Blackmore cashed in to the delight of the sizeable travelling support.
